Chey heads to Tennessee
On April 6, 2012, Chey, one of the founders of Double Dog Rescue, will be heading down south to experience the homeless dog epidemic. She plans on filming shelters, the volunteers in action, and the overall treatment of dogs. Chey will be post regularly to the DDR Facebook page, as well as blog her experience. Please follow and support her as she witnesses something she’d never thought she’d see.

Help Winnie get to her new home!
Winnie was rescued a year ago from Tennessee when her owner was murdered right in front of her! Winnie and her brothers and sisters were taken to animal control where two of her Border Collie brothers were immediately euthanized. This is when Double Dog Rescue jumped in and pulled Winnie’s entire pack. Double Dog made each dog a promise that they would find them their forever home and they did. Except for Winnie, because Winnie is a very special girl. She’s a hairy hairless girl.
Winnie is a Peruvian Inca Orchid dog. Unlike most PIOs that are completely hairless, Winnie has a good amount of hair on her back, tail and head. Her belly and legs are bald as a baby’s bottom though! Winnie is a sight hound which means that she is high energy with a high prey drive. For this reason Winnie has bounced around from foster home to foster home over the last year. Hairless Energizer Bunnies are not the sort of dog that DDRs adopters are looking for so we have decided to sign Winnie over to a rescue group that specializes in hairless breeds!
Double Dog Rescue is raising funds to transport Winnie to her new rescue & foster home in Canada. Your donation is tax deductible & will cover vetting/boarding costs! Any amount that you can contribute helps more than you can imagine. From $1 to $100 to whatever you can afford, every single penny helps us help Winnie. All you have to do is click on the red ChipIn Box in the right column to help.

June 18, 2010: Premier of Last Chance Highway on Animal Planet
Last Chance Highway features DDR Volunteer, Shelly Bookwalter and P.E.T.S. Kyle Peterson. The show is an eight part series featuring what goes into saving dogs from the south. Shelly demonstrates the day in a life of a volunteer and what she encounters on a daily basis. Some of which includes finding an over-bred momma dog and her puppies, getting the puppies vetted only to find that one of them has a terrible disease and what goes into treating them. Once everyone is healthy, Kyle Peterson and his crew show the journey from beginning to end as they transport them up north to their forever homes. It’s an emotional experience for all and proves that there can be happy endings for those who never had a chance without these selfless people.
